Lekol Sen Trinite students resume classes under the protection of tents.

With all the damage reported in Jacmel, Trinity House was fortunate.  The children are safe; the building intact - with only non-structural cracks that have since been repaired.  Lekol Sen Trinite had halted classes following the earthquake but were able to resume on April 6th.  The Haitian government has declared that educational classes may resume, however they could not be held indoors due to the unpredictable state of many of the Haitian buildings.  Tents have been erected and children are being welcomed back with open arms.

The Haiti Earthquake of January 12th rocked the lives of millions of people, in addition to rocking the earth, crumbling buildings, and taking lives.  Thankfully, all of the children of St. Joseph's Families survived and those who were injured, have mended their physical wounds with medical attention, care and love.  Life has not yet returned to the normal they knew, but instead they are in the process of creating a 'new' normal.  Buildings that were once known as home are being demolished brick by brick.  Construction plans are being developed and reviewed with much anticipation and excitement for the future.

In April (2010), Broken Wings was able to provide support to Michael Geilenfeld (founder of St. Joseph's Family of Homes) in the form of $150,000 down payment for the purchase of a two-storey house adjacent to the St. Joseph's Home (next to the St. Joseph's Community Art Center).  This has provided secure, stable housing in the area that was already home, and they can watch over the original St. Joseph's property and belongings, while being close to the

demolition action.

Immediately following the earthquake, the Wings of Hope

residents were moved to a relatively safe room nearer the

front of the building, but when it too became unsafe, the

leadership miraculously found a home for rent—one

unscathed by the earthquake and just down

the road from their current location.

Almost overnight, the children and staff

packed up their belongings and moved in.

Although this home is inadequate for the

needs of its' new residents, it is safe and

will serve them well as shelter until the new

Wings of Hope building is constructed.
